Thomas Kovack, DO, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and shoulder, elbow, and knee specialist at Hand and Microsurgery Associates in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Kovack has practiced medicine for 13 years and has performed many innovative minimally-invasive surgeries to get his patients back to living full, productive lives. Dr. Kovack’s previous work as a personal trainer and competitive bodybuilder helps him with treating patients and their orthopedic conditions.
Dr. Kovack began his journey into medicine at The Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Missouri, where he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in orthopedics. He completed both his medical internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. For his fellowship training, he studied shoulder and elbow surgery at the Florida Orthopedic Institute at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa. He is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
Dr. Kovack has a particular interest in tendon injuries, instability, arthritis, and fractures of the shoulder, elbow, and knee. He is also one of the first surgeons in the country to perform minimally invasive arthroscopic biologic total shoulder resurfacing surgeries, and is able to perform arthroscopic surgery when most surgeons are still using larger open incisions to perform shoulder and elbow surgery. He is committed to research and education, and has contributed to recent publications and industry papers.
When he’s not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children, playing sports, and staying active in the gym.
