WFD RECEIVES DONATION

The Westerville Division of Fire (WFD) recently accepted donations of medical equipment to support emergency medical services (EMS) valued at $30,000 from Lewis Center-based Hand and Microsurgery Associates (HMA). The new supplies will aid in the delivery of EMS services in Westerville and Blendon Township.

The donation was applied to the purchase of several critical-care items:

LUCAS CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) DEVICE
Provides automated, consistent chest compressions to improve blood flow in victims of cardiac arrest.
ADVANCED VIDEO AIRWAY DEVICE (KING VISION AIRWAY DEVICES)
ADVANCED FIBEROPTIC AIRWAY EQUIPMENT
RESCUE AIRWAY DEVICES (IGELS) FOR ALL THREE ENGINES AND BOTH MEDICS
Devices to aid in the safety and efficiency of the intubation process for non-breathers.
EQUIPMENT BAGS FOR ALL THREE MEDIC UNITS

“This equipment enhances the EMS services we provide to patients on a daily basis,” said Westerville Fire Chief Brian Miller. “Some of these items are very costly, and this donation helps advance our standard of care while saving taxpayer dollars. One Lucas CPR device, for example, may cost up to $15,000; yet it is a critical tool in applying automated chest compressions while we care for and transport a patient who may be experiencing cardiac arrest or serious trauma.”

“EMS professionals are vitally important to patient care and HMA is committed to helping these professionals help all of us,” said Dr. Paul Cook, Hand and Microsurgery Associates
